Finally feels like Fall

Today started out rainy and cold, but once we saw it cleared we decided to go to a free, that's FREE Fall fest nearby. Everything was free for the kids and it was great! Rory, of course was happiest with the hay ride they did around the parking lot. And of course throwing candy into the fountain...because you can make a wish with candy,right??? Dakota was thrilled to have so much candy,and they got free pumpkins as well. Then we came home to cozy up with some warm chocolote. Kids won't drink "hot chocolote" I have been informed "hot" is also unsafe! So happy Fall is here. It is my favorite time of year!

Rory's got a blog!

ok, I realize now that my family doesn't exactly want to hear me whining about Rory and his autistic challenges. So to solve it I have made him a blog of his own, I invite all parents of autistic kids to come laugh, relate,and help me through this new chapter in our lives.

upseting article

So I was reading through a newsweek I had from back in May and came across this article:
http://www.newsweek.com/id/197813 After reading,I felt saddened, upset even. I can relate to the man Ari and how he feels about scientists coming closer to creating a genetic test for autism, similar to what they have to test for down syndrome during pregnancy. In one part of the article he says "If a test is developed one day,it will be used. And that means people like him may cease to exist." This is a 21 year old who has done very well for himself that also has Aspergers.

I can understand to some extent why people would be in favor of it, seeing how different each aspy case is. When you are watching your child harm themselves I am the right there in wishing I could take that pain or frustration away. But to create tests to help decide whether or not to eliminate that life seems so unnecessary. there are so many things that are debilitating for children, I don't feel that autism is one of them.

At the end of the article he makes a statement which is just true and simple and really touched me as Rory came bouncing into my room, flapping his arms and screaming for joy because he found a balloon, and it was this "Our futures have not been stolen, our lives are not tragedies. Our message is clear: We stand before you. Don't make us go away."

Meet Merlin

Meet Merlin, Dakota's baby boy for the week. Dakota brought him home from school today, and let me just say Merlin LOVES to eat. Go figure. Anyhow,day one was a great day,and can't wait to see what Merlin has ahead of him for the rest of the week as Dakota's son.....

Too much free time?

I Have had a crazy couple of weeks trying to organize Rory's therapy sessions,and keep on top of 2 kids suddenly in school. But we have finally worked ourselves into a nice routine. Rory is doing wonderful in preschool, he has picked up on potty training and is doing awesome with it,and even participated verbally at circle time a couple times!!! Dakota Switched to a new teacher last week, so far I like her alot. she is doing the sight words and all the types of things we worked on here at home over the summer. Starting Monday his class is doing a "pumpkin patch baby" project. He gets to carry around a pumpkin baby around for a week and be a pretend papa. The goal is to tech the kids about personal responsibility. Warning: there will be pictures!

Anyhow, with only one kid at home I have alot more free time.... As some of you have noticed! Well I made Rebecca a tutu a couple days back and wanted to share it. I still have some flowers to sew onto it... at a later date, but you get the idea. I promise there will be more exciting posts soon!
